As a teenager, I picked up a cheap-for-Ireland CD called Trancemaster 3. It went on to be a wildly successful compilation series over the past 25 years and this was one of my introductions to German progressive house and trance.
One tune in particular on that CD stuck out for me and it was the Sax Anthem Mix of Lifetime Warranty by Digital Excitation. Up till then, I’d never knowingly heard a saxophone deployed in such a manner in a house or trance tune - some 30 years later, it still rules.
Intense and understated build-up to a monsterous sax break, rolling along with 303s, 808s and 909s to keep the party rocking.
